Consistent with the Telecommunications Act of 1996, FCC Docket 95-116, QWEST announced the deployment of Service Provider Local Number Portability. The initial deployment was completed in ten major metropolitan areas by December 31, 1998, as defined by the FCC. Deployment is now complete in nearly all CenturyLink locations.
