WYOMING TEACHERS “MAKE THE GRADE” WITH $25,000 GRANT FROM QWEST FOUNDATION AND WYOMING DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

CHEYENNE, Wyo., Jan. 9, 2008 - The CenturyLink Foundation and the Wyoming Department of Education today announced the next chapter in the CenturyLink Teachers and Technology program. For the second consecutive year, the program will award $25,000 in grants to Wyoming teachers who improve education for their students by incorporating innovative, technology-related classroom projects into their studies.

"Technology enables students to learn in exciting new ways, and helps lay the groundwork for future success—both in school and beyond," said Michael Ceballos, CenturyLink president of Wyoming. "The CenturyLink Teachers and Technology grant program supports educators who encourage their students to achieve ever loftier academic goals through the use of technology in the classroom."

“CenturyLink is a solid supporter of programs that advance education in Wyoming, and we are pleased to partner with them again this year to offer our state’s educators the funds they need for classroom technology,” Wyoming State Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Jim McBride said. “Limitless possibilities exist for students who understand today’s technology and embrace its potential, and these grants will help ensure Wyoming students’ success—now and in the future.”

The CenturyLink Teachers and Technology grants will be awarded to teachers through a competitive process administered by the Wyoming Department of Education. The top three technology-related projects will received the following award amounts:

  • 1st place: $12,000
  • 2nd place: $8,000
  • 3rd place: $5,000

The grant application deadline is Feb. 1, 2008; educators may download instructions and applications at http://www.k12.wy.us/. The funds may be used to purchase supplies or to support professional development needs; however, funds may not be used to pay salaries or stipends.
