QWEST PRESIDENT LARRY TOLL RETIRES

SIOUX FALLS, S.D., Aug. 12, 2008 — CenturyLink Communications (NYSE: Q) today announced that South Dakota President Larry Toll will retire from the company on Aug. 31. Toll has overseen Qwest’s operations in South Dakota since 1996 in a career that has spanned almost 40 years in the telecommunications industry.

“I congratulate Larry on a successful and storied career,” said Steve Davis, CenturyLink senior vice president of Public Policy. “His contributions to CenturyLink are innumerable, and while we will certainly miss having him on the team, we wish him all the best through the coming years.”

Toll began his career with Northwestern Bell in 1970 and held various management assignments in Iowa and Nebraska as well as with AT&T in New York and New Jersey. In 1983 he moved to South Dakota with Northwestern Bell. Toll left the state in 1991 for other job assignments and returned to South Dakota in 1996.

As Qwest’s president in South Dakota, Toll worked closely with governors, state and federal legislators and their staffs, the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission and various other publics to implement corporate strategies throughout the state.

A native of Dubuque, Iowa, Toll holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Iowa State University and a Masters degree in management from Pace University in New York. Toll will remain active in the community as he continues his service on several boards.

Max Phillips, currently Qwest’s Iowa president, has been appointed to fill Larry’s position and will oversee two states for the company.
