SIOUX FALLS SCHOOL WINS $4,000; QWEST PRESENTS GRANT CHECK TO STUDENTS AND ADMINISTRATORS

SIOUX FALLS, S.D., Jan. 17, 2008—Harvey Dunn Elementary School won a $4,000 grant from the CenturyLink Foundation to support its library revitalization project.

Larry Toll, CenturyLink president for South Dakota, presented the school’s principal, librarian and students with a $4,000 check during a lunch-hour assembly at the school.

According to Librarian Judy Murphy, the donation comes at the perfect time, since changes to the state’s school curriculum has affected library funding. The grant will benefit Harvey Dunn’s approximately 500 students by funding the purchase of new science books, establishing an audio book library and creating a “battle of the books” competition.

“I’m really glad because I like to read,” said 4th grader Annika McCallum.

Murphy added, “They love new books, and who doesn’t, so they were just really surprised.”

The mission of the Sioux Falls School District is to educate and prepare each student to succeed in a changing world.
