CenturyLink Awards $75,000 to Idaho Teachers for Technology Projects
Ten teachers from around Idaho won grants from the CenturyLink Foundation for innovative classroom technology projects this year. This is the fourth year of the program, which is funded by the CenturyLink Foundation and administered by the Idaho Department of Education.
This year’s winners are:
American Falls: Kathy Maughan, American Falls Intermediate School, for a mobile laptop and keyboards for multi-media writing projects.
Boise: Richard Whittaker, Collister Elementary, to purchase video iPods and video editing software.
Dayton: (1) Cindy Hull, Harold B Lee Elementary, for an “ELMO” visual imaging system that allows her to download and display education materials for her class.
(2) James Summers, West Side High School, for software and a computerized cutting and torch system for welding and fabrication projects.
Emmett: Janet Fisher, Carberry Intermediate School, for handheld Global Positioning System (GPS) units for geography, math and science projects.
Shelley: (1) Janet Evans, Marjorie Feige, Hobbs Middle School, for digital cameras, a laptop and projector and a digital microscope for science projects.
(2) Michael Winston, Hobbs Middle School, for an oil seed press and equipment to made biodiesel from vegetable oil.
Salmon: Tracy Burgess, Renae Lewis, Arlene Wolf, Salmon High School, for a high-tech mock crime investigation project that incorporates finger printing, blood testing and other forensics work.
Twin Falls: Leah Bess, IB Perrine Elementary, for an interactive white board system. Weiser: Melissa Reed, Park Intermediate School, for digital cameras, Global Positioning System (GPS) units, a camcorder and other equipment to enhance geography, math, science and language projects.
